Description

Four brass candle-tools attached to hand-made chains, linked together by square centre piece. This grouping of tools demonstrates the transition from scissor snuffers to bell-shaped extinguishers. Scissor snuffers were rendered obsolete with the introduction and popularization of self-snuffing candle wicks (invented in 1825 by Cambaceres and patented by Tatum and Williams in 1862).
