Official appointment of William Pohl as a Corporal in Company H of the 169th Regiment of the NYS Volunteers. The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs specifically records the following: "POHL, WILLIAM.—Age , 18 years. Enlisted, August 27, 1862, at Sand Lake, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. H, October 6, 1862; promoted corporal, May 1, 1865; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, NC. He died in 1914 at about age 71 or 72 and is buried in Section 1R of Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake. The certificate has been framed to protect and preserve it for periodic display during Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veteran's Day in the main entrance to Town Hall.Acquisition
