Description

Photographs and descriptions (only displayed via the main database) of the historic furniture currently located on the 1st floor of the Town Hall of the Town of Sand Lake, NY, as of February of 2021. Includes furniture owned or made by James K. Averill, John C. Cotton, First Presbyterian Church of Sand Lake, Raymond W. Nash, and the Gregory family. Dee and Fred Erickson of West Sand Lake donated the Gregory House love seat, side chair, and rocker (currently the La Perla Italian Restaurant and Gregory House Inn located on Route 43 in Averill Park) based upon Dee's family's longstanding relationship with descendants of early Sand Lake Lake resident Elias M. Gregory, 1826-1897, who is buried in Sand Lake Union Cemetery. The descendants owned a primary residence in Massapequa, LI, and summered at Gregory House in Averill Park. She recalls that the Gregory family gifted or donated the furniture to members or friends of her family, which subsequently passed through several hands and all the way to Philadelphia, PA, and back before returning to Sand Lake and being donated to the Town by Dee and Fred.
