Knights of the Maccabees Pin and Tent ItemsEntry/Object ID
2021.3.125Description
Pin and likely souvenir tent items commemorating Averill Park Tent Number 842 of the Knights of the Maccabees (KOTM) which was obviously organized in the Town of Sand Lake likely sometime during the late 19th or early 20th Century. The KOTM was a fraternal organization formed in 1878 in London, Ontario, Canada, that focused upon religious beliefs and sharing actuarial insurance costs, particularly in support of funeral expenses. Refer to the WebLinks portion of this entry for additional information. An Internet search identified no additional references to KOTM activities in Sand Lake. The organization became insolvent and nearly disappeared in the mid 20th century but is reportedly gaining renewed interest based solely upon its non-actuarial religious and fraternal aspects. These objects are located in a plastic baggie in SLHS File Cabinet 5 - Drawer 2.Cataloged By
