2021.2.56Description
Eighteen-page PDF of an autograph book compiled by Miss Anna L. Werger (or perhaps Anna Warger) of Sand Lake, NY, from 1892 through 1895. Per the weblinks portion of this entry, 18th and 19th-century autograph books were the predecessors of modern 20th and 21st-century yearbooks and frequently used to record the well-wishes of schoolmates, close friends, acquaintances, and family members. Thus, the entries are frequently embellished with clever, touching, and frequently amusing prose, praise, and aspirations for the future. The included sample page displays an example of the entries. In addition, the book includes numerous colorful floral prints that signers frequently worked into their inscriptions. The PDF includes some, but not all, of the prints. The PDF is downloadable while fully logged into the system. Refer to the example page for a preview of its content. The original book is relatively tiny (3 x 4 by 1/4 inches), extremely fragile, and stored in a locked fireproof safe at Town Hall.Cataloged By
