Ruth Howard Photo Album - Presbyterian Sabbath SchoolEntry/Object ID
2021.2.84Description
Cloth bound late 19th century photo album with an inscription of, "Ruth Howard, from Presbyterian Sabbath School, Christmas, 1886, Sand Lake, NY" noted just inside the front cover, indicating that the album may have been a gift of some sort. A Google search of "Ruth Howard Averill Park" discovered that she was likely Ruth Ann Averill Howard, 1831-1912, daughter of James Gill Averill and sibling of Henry, Horatio, Emily, Ellen, and James Averill with her grave, spouse, and children information being noted in the URL section of this entry. Alternatively, perhaps she was at least related to Ruth Ann Averill Howard since additional notations throughout the album refer to a Ruth Howard Growler (although Growler is uncertain given the script handwriting) and references to Grandma Clarissa Sliter Averill (James Gill Averill's wife). Other photo name notations throughout the album appear to include Frances Howard Gilford, Carolyn Howard Growler, and Sarah Leslie Growler. However, the script writing is uncertain and many photos lack any notation. Thus, please advise the Sand Lake Town Historian if anyone can help provide additional information.Cataloged By
