2021.2.51Scope and Content
Thirty-three-page PDF of miscellaneous Town of Sand Lake School Tax budgeting and resulting property tax levies and apportionments of county school aid between the eleven school districts that were once located throughout the Town of Sand Lake, NY. While far from complete, the lists include significant data for District Numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 related to portions of the years 1906 through 1910 and various supporting appointments, documents, and calculations. Thus, they provide an excellent idea of relative district sizes, estimated operating costs, both individual and aggregate teacher's salaries, and resulting apportionment of the $2,000 in annual school aid received from the county (see page 7) and tax levies upon properties located in each district needed to cover anticipated expenses as noted at the top of each list. For example, anticipated expenses range from as little as $109 for District Number 10 (see page 11) to as much as $876 for District Number 7 (see page 21). Teacher costs similarly ranged from as little as $88 for District Number 10 to as much as $150 for the wages of Ms. Octa M. Peck of District Number 9 from December of 1905 through May of 1906 (see page 6). The PDF is downloadable while fully logged into the system. Refer to the example page for a preview of its content. A much higher resolution PDF is stored off-line and available upon request under the file name:

The original lists are extremely fragile, stored in a locked fireproof safe at Town Hall, and available if the high-resolution PDF fails to adequately address a particular research requirement.Cataloged By
