Scope and Content

Sand Lake Historical Society File Cabinet 5 (SLHS-FC5) Drawers/Shelves 1 to 5 (D1 to D5). Typically locked. Physically located in the NY State Police side rear entrance to the Sand Lake Town Library near the large SLHS in-wall display. Its general contents include: - SLHS-FC5 D1: Actually a shelf, rather than a drawer. This shelf stores: * A large binder of 35 mm photograph slides covering the period of approximately 1995 to 2007. Most appear to be related to past SLHS program presentations or inventories of SLHS collections. They appear to be numbered in relation to a list of some sort that has yet to be identified. * A box of Joe Connors photograph negatives that appear to focus upon the beaches, lakes, hotels, churches, and notable businesses and buildings of Sand Lake. Some of which may have been used to create postcards. * Four woodcut printing plates that were apparently used to produce the Tremont calendars related to the Park House Hotel, Troy and New England Railroad Station, Burden Lake Hotel, and Averill Park Pharmacy. Refer to the Tremont Calendars entries of this system for additional details. * A Radio Shack voice-activated portable cassette tape recorder and player. - SLHS-FC5 D2: Stores a photocopy of a 1932 Sand Lake Springs (SLS) calendar and unused SLS soda bottle labels, Two F. W. Beers 1876 Atlases of Rensselaer County, Elizabeth Barnard Herbarium, slag glass from the Rensselaer Glass Factory, an A.W. Robins & Company General Store journal, box of excess SLHS fundraising calendar and postcard prints, Great Appalachian Storm (November 24-25, 1950) Binder, Knights of the Maccabees Pin and Tent Items, and frameable photos of the Sand Lake Center for the Arts and former town hall. - SLHS-FC5 D3: This drawer stores: * A box containing two Sand Lake Springs bottles (one 5 pint water and one soda bottle), several other non-Sand Lake-related antique bottles, several blown glass items, and several antique kitchen items. Photos of these items appear in the Sand Lake Springs, Glassmaking, and Bottles and Glassware folders of this system. * Blue Presentations Folder 1 containing transcripts and research notes for: - Judy Rowe's 1995 Invisible Road to Freedom, Underground Railroad presentation; - Mary French's 1983 Charcoal Burning Slide Presentation and slides; - John McGuire's 1990 presentation regarding an Empire State Institute for the Performing Arts trip to Moscow, and; - Steve Qillinan's 1990 History of Miller's Supermarket presentation. * Blue Presentations Folder 2 containing transcripts and research notes for: - Bob Shuey's 1989 Civil War presentation; - A 250 Years of Costumes presentation; - Judy Rowe's 1995 George Washington's Secret Army presentation, and; - Winifred Wright Edward's 1989 Genessee Fever presentation. - A manilla folder storing over a dozen sets of primarily Judy Rowe generated research notes and drafts related to potential Historical Highlights articles and Advertiser columns. - SLHS-FC5 D4 and D5: Stores SLHS book, t-shirt, magnet, recordings, and miscellaneous other SLHS fundraising sale items. - SLHS-FC5 Top: The top of SLHS-FC5 stores: * A box of SLHS organizational records (minutes, reports, finances...) that were primarily compiled by Joan Fuess. * Two empty slide projector carousels. * Box of 24 clipboards. * A large metal percolator coffee maker. * SLHS framed organizational charters.
