Program commemorating the award of a WWII Army-Navy Production Award similar to the one received by Faith Mills to the Simmons Machine Tool Company of Albany, NY. SLHS Archivist/Curator Mike Perry found the program buried in the SLHS files in February of 2022 with a post-it note affixed to it stating, "see if Albany can use this," without any further explanation of who or what in Albany might be able to use the program. As a result, Mike did some research, discovered that Simmons remained in business, and e-mailed its sales department to determine if Simmons had any interest in the program. Mike received an almost immediate response from Mr. Brandon Teal, who is a Production Manager for Simmons, Town of Sand Lake native and current resident, and member of its historic Teal family. Brandon advised Mike that Simmons was keenly interested in receiving the program to add to its extensive collection of materials commemorating the event. Specifically, Brandon arranged for Mike to visit the Simmons plant in Albany on February 21, 2022, to deliver the program and review a nearly 3-foot tall x 2-foot wide and 5-inch thick scrapbook that Simmons had organized to extensively commemorate the event as well as meet Simmons President and COO, Mr. David Davis, and several other Simmons employees. Simmons had a copy of the program. However, it was permanently glued into the scrapbook. Thus, Mr. Davis explained that the extra loose program would help Simmons further ongoing plans to create a historical display commemorating Simmons' founding in 1910 and over 112 years of history. Brandon and Mike suspect that another Sand Lake resident might have worked for Simmons during the war years, received the program as well as perhaps an award, and eventually donated the program to SLHS. Regardless, SLHS definitely returned the program to the best place to ensure its further preservation and appreciation. Hopefully, SLHS can eventually find additional photos and articles related to its Army-Navy Award presentation.Cataloged By
