Dr. D. Evans Pill BottleEntry/Object ID
2021.3.151Description
This is an approximately three-inch-tall mold-blown and crudely made pontiled medicine bottle. The bottle was almost certainly made in the early 1820s or 1830s for Dr. William Evans at the historic Rensselaer Glass Factory in Glass Lake Villiage in the Town of Sand Lake per former Town Historian Ms. July Rowe. As a result, the bottle's value to the Town far exceeds its $70 value as an antique bottle. New York State-based Dr. Evans sold various remedies for a wide range of maladies throughout the country during the 19th century. Its embossing and markings include, "D. EVANS," "CAMOMILE," and, "PILLS," in bold crude letters on 3 sides and an open pontil on the bottom, which clearly demonstrates its frequently paper-thin and delicate design and crude construction. The bottle is currently part of the, "Various Artifacts and Photos Display," which is located on the second floor of Town Hall.Cataloged By
