1846-1874 Averill or Taylor Accounts LedgerEntry/Object ID
2021.2.60Scope and Content
Sixty-eight-page PDF of a ledger that was attributed to William Franklin Averill when donated to the Town by Robert Dalton Harris and Diane DeBlois per the included donation letter. However, since William F. Averill died in 1839 and the earliest entry appears to be 1846, the ledger was likely primarily used instead by later members of the Averill family or, more likely, someone named W. H. Taylor, Esquire, of Sand Lake given the frequency in which his name appears in the ledger. The ledger also frequently mentions somewhere or someplace named, "Sing-Sing," which may have been the name of a local farm or homestead and possibly named after Sing-Sing prison, which opened in 1826, particularly since Taylor may have been a criminal attorney of some sort. The PDF is downloadable while fully logged into the system. Refer to the example page for a preview of its content. Most of the entries appear to be rather informally made and rather routine. A much higher resolution PDF is stored off-line and available upon request under the file name:
