Description

Loyal Temperance Legion of Averill Park and Sand Lake-related artifacts. Includes a Northfield Hymnal No. 2 presented to the Legion, a Legion postcard, and a 1913 boathouse rental agreement between Fayette Thomas and Arthur C. Furguson forbidding the sale of intoxicating drinks. Prohibitionists managed to place four referendums on the 1909 Town election ballots that would have curtailed or outlawed the sale of liquor in Sand Lake. However, all four resolutions failed to pass. Obviously, the Legion continued its efforts long after 1909 given the 1916 inscription in the book.
