PDF of a brief (two pages) written history of the historic Town of Sand Lake owned Public Works Department managed barn that is located on Eastern Union Turnpike. Bob's father, Clifford Hastings, managed a steam plant that was originally located in the barn for the benefit of the electric-powered Troy and New England (later United Traction) Railroad, which ran trolleys from Troy to Stop 13 in Averill Park, NY. The barn was relocated brick-by-brick as a Works Progress Administration project from Stop 13 to Eastern Union Turnpike during the 1930s while Clifford served as the Supervisor of the Town of Sand Lake. The Town is currently attempting to ensure the historic structure is further repurposed while maintaining its historic character.
