Description
Photo album and miscellaneous portraits and graduation photos which most likely belonged to someone named W. Earle Waterbury of Nassau, NY, who apparently graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) sometime around 1910. The photos include numerous farm and homestead related photos, apparent classes of surveyor students, several early steam and sail driven boats and steamboats on the Hudson River, and several early 20th century photos of the RPI campus, as well as multiple copies of several different graduation and posed portraits. The ship and boat photos are apparently of the Hudson–Fulton Celebration which occurred from September 25 to October 9, 1909, in New York and New Jersey was an elaborate commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s "discovery" of the Hudson River and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first successful commercial application of the paddle steamer per the web links portion of this entry. The celebration included recreations of Hudson's Half Moon and Fulton's Clermont which were featured in a large parade of boats the traveled between NYC and Troy.
