James. B. Adamson (Jimmy), who Jimmy passed away in 1962, operated the first garbage collection in Wasaga Beach. The featured ledger is from Jimmy's business. The outer cover is black leatherette material attached to heavy cardboard, with burgundy leatherette corner inserts and a decorative gold line 0.25" from the edge at the junction of the black and burgundy insert. The inside binding has separated with mesh cloth material visible. The ledger has beige/brown pages with the first 13 pages alphabetically labelled for two letters each, for example, AB, CD, EF etc. Listed under each letter are corresponding business names with account details for garbage pickup. The remainder of pages in the ledger are ruled as an accounting ledger, with numbers 1 - 372 stamped/printed on the top right corner of the page including the back of pages. Pages are filled with various information from 1930 - 1966. Details include business garbage pickup amounts billed & received as well as personal income and expenses. There are pages tracking various work done, garbage removal, caretaking for church and school, snowplowing, shoveling, delivering soil and gravel, planting trees, growing and selling pigs, chickens, eggs and potatoes, cutting and selling wood, moving lumber and logs to and from the mill and cottage rentals. Wood sold for $10.00 /cord in 1942. Page 302 - 325 is a handwritten assessment for 1938 for Wasaga Beach. Resident names, plan and value are handwritten in red ink.
Jimmy and Muriel Adamson also owned Elm Park Cottages located at the corner of Zoo Park Road and River Road West, Wasaga Beach. The cottage court had 4 cottages in total. The original log cottage which still contained original beams was later refinished in stucco and was destroyed by fire a few years ago. The house located at 637 River Road West, which sat in front of the original cottage and which also was destroyed by fire in the past few years, was also part of the cottage court but was renovated to be a larger home.
Jimmy and Muriel Adamson had 6 children, Dorothy, Evelyn, Eric, Ruth, Bernard and Donald. Donald Adamson married Diane (Geddes) More Adamson. (Diane's first husband was More). Donald passed away in 2009 and Diane passed away in 2023. Deanna Adamson is granddaughter of Jim and Muriel Adamson and daughter of Diane and Donald Adamson.Acquisition
