Context

The collection includes various pieces of china from Barker's Tea Room along with a keytag, #8 Barkers Tea Room Wasaga Beach. Barker's Tea Room was located on the beach near Dixie Inn Road in Oakview Beach. This area is now Provincial Park - Beach Area 4. Barker's was opened in 1929 by owners Albert and Ida Barker. The Barker's added a family home and a lodge. In 1939, they purchased Fred's Fish and Chips which was located on the lot beside the Tea Room and built a kitchen and dining room that seated 100 guests. A six room apartment and 5 cabins were also added to the complex. Barker's sold the property to John and Pat McGuire in 1963 who continued to operate the business. The business was demolished in 1973 when the area became Provincial Park Beach Area 4.
