Context

Dinosaur Valley opened on June 21, 1980. Developed by Rainbow Hills Development, the amusement park was situated on 8 acres of land behind natural sand dunes across from the original Wasaga Stars Arena. Visitors could take a half hour guided tour through the Mesozoic era, consisting of the Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous Periods and the Cenozoic era through the development of mammals and early man. There was a gift shop, Safari Mini Golf, a cafeteria, remote controlled model boats and a variety of exotic animals crafted from fiberglass material similar to the dinosaurs on site. The dinosaurs were created from fiberglass in England and shipped to Canada for assembly and installation in the park. Dinosaurs were brought into the park by helicopter and lowered to their resting place. Rainbow Hills Development also created an outdoor roller rink that was located next door to Dinosaur Valley and Rainbow Hills Driving Range that was located a short walk away. Although Rainbow Hills Development planned to add more activities to create a full amusement park area, after three seasons the company filed for bankruptcy and Dinosaur Valley closed. Most of the dinosaurs were purchased and shipped to the Calgary Zoo.
