Context

Builder and developer Gord Gough, converted the former Eberhardt property located at 891 River Road West into a 22-unit apartment complex under the Convert-to-Rent Program, with a provincial loan of $158,000 assisting with the conversion of the complex known as Gough’s Landing to rental apartments, a $525,000 development. From a December 9, 1987 newspaper article, “Located at 891 River Road West, Gough Landing is perhaps one of Wasaga’s finest looking residential complexes. It may also be one of the most unusual, considering that the structure is basically built around a renovated house and barn. Gough used his imagination and creativity to transform the aging structure into a modern piece of architectural art.” The Eberhardt family lived at the corner of River Road West and Beck Street where Gough’s landing is now. There was a large barn behind their house where the ice was stored; covered with sawdust and woodchips. Ice blocks were cut from Marl Lake and Nottawasaga Bay in the winter to sell to locals and tourists to keep their food cold as refrigerators were not common then. Part of the original Eberhardt barn and home were incorporated into the Gough's Landing condo complex when it was built. Gord Gough also owned and operated “Gough Drywall” and designed and built custom homes with “Crosby & Gough Custom Home Ltd.”
