Context

The photograph captioned "HORSEBACK RIDING" pictures 5 individuals riding horses with people walking and cars parked and driving along the beach. Horseback riding on the beach was popular from the 1930's until the mid 1950's. There were at least 9 riding stables located in the area during the summer months. Maple Leaf Riding School and Bell's Riding School were located on the beachfront. The photos contained in the Garvey collection were photographed and developed by Frank Garvey, Maple Leaf Film Service. Frank arrived in Wasaga Beach in 1929 and opened his photography business operating from two tents on the beachfront. In 2000, the collection was donated to the Archives by Judy Garvey.
