Context

The article includes a classroom photograph of the senior students at Wasaga Beach Public School in t1951. Student names are listed in the article. The photo is courtesy of Ella Edwards. Wasaga Beach School was located at 30 Lewis Street, Wasaga Beach at the current location of the Town of Wasaga Beach Municipal Office. The property for the school was donated in 1937 by Anabel Sage Mills (1919-2009). The new school was built at a cost of $3900 and officially opened on December 10, 1939. Miss Barbara Palmer was the first teacher. The school operated as a public school until it closed in 1972. Students were then sent to Oxbow Park School (Worsley Public School). The school property was purchased by the Town of Wasaga Beach in 1973 for $1 and became the Municipal Office when Wasaga Beach was incorporated into a Town in 1974. Areas of the original school building continue to be used for offices with several additions to the original building constructed since 1974. Mills Park is named in honor of Annabel Sage Mills and is located adjacent to the municipal parking lot and offices. Note that a new school located at 42 Union Boulevard, Wasaga Beach is now known as Wasaga Beach Public School.
