In the photograph dated 1935, Ken Doraty, is seen wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jacket, leaning on a post outside Ernie’s Barber Shop and Beauty Salon and Maple Leaf Film Studio, located on Main Street, Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
Ken Doraty was born on June 26, 1905, in Stittsville, Ontario and passed away May 4, 1981, in Moose Jaw, Ontario. He began his hockey career in the major league Western Hockey League for the Portland Rosebuds. He made his NHL debut for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1926. He played the next five seasons in the minor hockey league, and in 1932, Doraty joined the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 1933, Doraty scored the winning goal, in the sixth overtime, to give Toronto a 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins to win the Stanley Cup. The game was the longest game in either team’s history with 104:46 minutes of overtime.
Doraty’s hockey career spanned 1925-1939. After playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, he went on to play for the Detroit Red Wings. During his NHL career, Doraty, who played right wing, scored 15 goals, with 25 assists in regular season play and scored 7 goals, with 2 assists in Stanley Cup playoff games.
