Kilkare Lodge was located on the Nottawasaga River, between First St. and Peter St. As noted on the included advertisement from a 1939 Chamber of Commerce map, the lodge and cabins were operated by Mr. & Mrs. F.E. Brokenshire. Kilkare Lodge had a dining lounge for guests along with access to the Nottawasaga River, and a private sandy beach for swimming, canoeing, and fishing. The Pines Housekeeping Cabins, offered guests independent accommodations, running water and fully equipped kitchenettes. A small store on site provided basic items for guests. Kilkare Lodge was open until the early 1950’s.
The photos contained in the Garvey collection were photographed and developed by Frank Garvey, Maple Leaf Film Service. Frank arrived in Wasaga Beach in 1929 and opened his photography business operating from two tents on the beachfront. In 2000, the collection was donated to the Archives by Judy Garvey.Acquisition
