Context

The photograph shows 2 gentleman standing beside a "Lakeshore Cabins" sign. "1-2-3 Room Cabins" is also visible on the sign. A fence and cars driving and parked along the beach can also be seen. Lakeshore cabins were originally built on Lake Nippising not far from Callander Ontario to help accommodate the crowds that came to that area to observe the Dionne Quintuplets who were born in 1934. A gentleman named Harry Forester moved the cabins to Wasaga Beach after the crowds dissipated in Callander. Bob and Molly Hines owned Lakeshore Cabins and Cottages after Forester’s until 1967, when they sold to the Department of Lands and Forests, now known as the Ministry of Natural Resources. Their property is now identified as 420 and 424 Mosley Street. On Mosley Street, just west of 424 Mosley Street, an open lot is the location where the entrance to lakeshore cabins used to be. In the 1970’s, the land adjacent to Mosley Street was severed off and sold. A Catholic church was constructed and operated for a few years. The church was eventually removed and the land is now vacant. Reford and Jean Whiteside, and Neil and Ella Edwards, grandparents and parents to Alan Edwards, donor of the Edward's Collection, lived immediately south of Lakeshore cabins. A major fire occurred in 1967 which destroyed the main building and many of the Lakeshore cabins/cottages. Reford Whiteside bought one of the cabins that was not damaged and used it for storage. The cabin was still on the family property until 2017. Reford Whiteside was a licensed plumber, commercial fisherman, dug wells and laid blocks. Jean Gordon of Sunnidale Township, married Reford Whiteside and moved to Wasaga Beach. Reford and Jean had two daughters, Isabel, who married Ross Hutchinson, and Ella who married Neil Edwards. Neil Edwards worked on the CPR ships out of Port McNicol and later had a bread route and worked at Goodyear circa 1967-1996. Alan Edwards, son of Ella and Neil Edwards, and great grandson of Reford and Jean Whiteside donated the Edward's Collection. Reford’s parents, Alan's great grandparents, were Mary Margaret Moore of Allenwood Beach married to George Whiteside.
