Context

The photograph, dated July, 1956 shows Main Street, Wasaga Beach, Ontario with cars parked and driving along the street with the beachfront visible in the background. Many businesses can be seen including Rexall Drugs, a Cafe, Bruce's Sportswear, Wasaga Auction Gallery, Playland Park, Georgian Restaurant, Ted's 2x4, Real Estate, and an Inn. A banner hanging across the street towards the beachfront reads Boat Regatta. Hydro poles, a streetlight and a No Parking sign are also visible. The photos contained in the Garvey collection were photographed and developed by Frank Garvey, Maple Leaf Film Service. Frank arrived in Wasaga Beach in 1929 and opened his photography business operating from two tents on the beachfront. In 2000, the collection was donated to the Archives by Judy Garvey.
