Copies of four meeting Minutes from 1931 to 1935.
The first meeting was held August 22, 1931 when a small group of ratepayers met at the cottage of Mr. W. Trace for the purpose of discussing matters of Interest to the Property owners. A decision was made to form an Association that would be known as The New Wasaga Beach Ratepayers Association. The first meeting included discussion advising that residents would have hydro service by spring. Speeding on the beach, camping without proper accommodation, garbage, indecent exposure, road improvements and promoting community spirit with annual entertainment were discussed. Mr. Trace and Mr. Devitt, present at the meeting were appointed as a committee to notify the Provincial Officer regarding any condition that might arise requiring action.
At the meeting of August 20th, 1932, members reported on a visit to Township Council by committee of 4 members regarding garbage collection noting that council were compelled by provincial board of Health to make these collections owing to complaints from Old Beach (Main beach?). The Old beach is subject to $2.00 charge per cottage while there beach is $3.25 charge per cottage.
It was voted that the name of New Wasaga Beach be changed to Allenwood Beach. Election of Officers was held. It was decided the committee will revisit Township Council to object to excessive garbage charges, signs be erected to prohibit camping, Mr. Trace investigate improvements in Mail service during the months of July and August, membership fee for the Association be 50 cents per year, and a committee was appointed to arrange community entertainment for the season of 1933.
At the meeting of July 22, 1933, held at Kairawan Lodge, improvement in mail service was noted and a committee visited the Board of Health at the Parliament Buildings regarding garbage collection resulting in reduction in collections consistent with the order of the Township council to two days per week, Tuesday and Friday and cost of same would be charged in regularly taxes spread over all property owners. It was also reported that a visit to the Crown Lands Department, Parliament Buildings, committee was advised that "we as property owners approach the Township Council and had someone sworn-in as special constable they would invest them with control of the beach." A previous motion to renaming the beach was rescinded with a decision made to poll property owners giving them three choices for names. The names chosen were "Allenwood Beach" named after residents Mr. Allen & Mr. Wood, "Kabeyum Beach" an Indigenous name meaning west winds, and "Kairawan Beach" an Indigenous name meaning resting place. Also discussed was community engagement and restricting pedlars on the beach.
At the meeting of June 29, 1935, held at Kairawan Lodge, the results of the poll to rename the beach resulted in choosing the name "Allenwood Beach". Signs would be procured and placed at strategic points. There was discussion of restricting business on the beach and the decision to approach a property owner to request he move his building back in line with other buildings.Acquisition
