In 1943, Marjorie and Lloyd Dyer purchased a two bedroom cottage, called Nancy Villa in Wasaga Beach. While they continued to reside in Hamilton, during the summer months, the Dyers rented cots to tourists. They purchased adjoining lots and built more cottages, hotel units and added a dining room to Nancy Villa. In 1951, they relocated permanently to Wasaga Beach. Nancy Villa became a year round resort with 38 rental units hosting dignitaries, wedding receptions and community groups. In the 1960's, when the village was no longer dry, a bar known as the Porthole was added. Lloyd Dyer served as the President of he Chamber of Commerce in 1957, and Marjorie Dyer was the first elected female member of Council in the Village in 1957. Marjorie served on council and as Deputy Reeve for almost 25 years. Marjorie also made and decorated wedding cakes and provided sandwiches and coffee for firefighters returning from a fire. The Nancy Villa was sold in the 1980's. Eventually the Town of Wasaga Beach purchased the property where a parking lot is now located beside Nancy Island Historic Site.Acquisition
