Context

The original desk, used at the Wasaga Beach School when it was operational was donated to the Town of Wasaga Beach on January 8th, 1974 to commemorate the incorporation of the Town. From information contained in school photo albums: The property for the Wasaga Beach School, which is now the Town of Wasaga Beach Municipal Offices, was donated in 1937 by Anabel Sage Mills. The school was opened in 1939 and operated as a public school until it closed in 1972. Students were then sent to Oxbow Park School. The property was purchased by the Town of Wasaga Beach in 1973 and became the Municipal Office when Wasaga Beach was incorporated into a Town in 1974. Many additions have been built since then, however the original cornerstone for the school still remains on site, as well as a plaque dedicated to Anabel Sage Mills. The Park on the site was originally known as Mills Park, containing swings, tennis and shuffleboard courts, and a baseball diamond.
