In Ontario, Park Ranger generally refers to park staff who perform maintenance, visitor services, or natural heritage education, in addition to enforcement duties. Park Ranger decals (stickers) were circulated and used at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park in the 80s or 90s as part of the Ministry of Natural Resources Junior Ranger Program. They were attached to binders, journals, etc.
The Ministry of Natural Resources continues to sponsor the Ranger program currently known as the Stewardship Youth Ranger Program.
Stewardship Youth Rangers take part in a wide range of projects that could include:
-creating habitat for species at risk
-monitoring the health of forests
-maintaining provincial parks (campsites, trails, beaches)
-rehabilitating wetlands
-helping with environmental and cultural community events
-there may also be opportunity to work in backcountry wilderness, which may involve overnight canoe trips to clear portages and maintain campsites.Acquisition
