Context
In the photograph, vehicles can be seen parked and driving along the beachfront. The picture looks westward along the beach near the Hiawatha Inn. The Hiawatha Inn was located west of Main Street and east of the Dardanella. The Hiawatha was built by Donald MacDonald and his father Donald MacDonald circa 1927. An ad dated 1947 lists Mr. Sam Ketcheson as Manager and Mr. Johnny Burns as Proprietor at the time. The Hiawatha burned down in March 1966.
The photos contained in the Garvey collection were photographed and developed by Frank Garvey, Maple Leaf Film Service. Frank arrived in Wasaga Beach in 1929 and opened his photography business operating from two tents on the beachfront. In 2000, the collection was donated to the Archives by Judy Garvey.
