Context

The Hiawatha Inn was located on the beachfront west of Main Street and east of the Dardanella. The Hiawatha location can be seen on the 1933 Chamber of Commerce map section included. The Hiawatha was built by Donald MacDonald and his father Donald MacDonald circa 1927. An ad dated 1947 lists Mr. Sam Ketcheson as Manager and Mr. Johnny Burns as Proprietor at the time. The Hiawatha burned down in March 1966. The photos contained in the Garvey collection were photographed and developed by Frank Garvey, Maple Leaf Film Service. Frank arrived in Wasaga Beach in 1929 and opened his photography business operating from two tents on the beachfront. In 2000, the collection was donated to the Archives by Judy Garvey.
