Context

The picture captioned "The Road to the Beach -c.1940" shows the road leading up to the Main Street bridge circa 1940. A Beardsall's Butcher Shop sign is visible at the side of the road. Beardsall's Meats was located on the east side of Highway 92 which later became Main Street. One of the early entrepreneur’s who moved to the area around 1905 was Charlie Eberhardt. Mr. Eberhardt was a commercial fisherman and he operated an ice cutting business. He built a general store that was located at the northwest end of the Main Street Bridge. He then added a second floor and rented rooms to tourists. The top floor of the store also became a classroom operating one of the first schools in Wasaga Beach. The Eberhardt family also operated a tour boat, taxi business, miniature golf, information bureau and real estate office.
