Context

During the wartime years of 1939 to 1945, the Toronto Star published colorful and amusing covers on its news magazine, Star Weekly, in an attempt to boost morale. The cover of September 18, 1943 includes a promotion for Goodyear - the Greatest Name in Rubber. The full color picture shows an aircraft touching down on water with 3 men in a life-raft wearing life jackets and waving at the plane. The advertisement at the bottom of the poster reads: "When Dependability Counts Most.... Years ago, airmen "forced down at sea" were never heard from again. But NOT today. Airmen on every ocean are being saved, and kept safe until rescue comes, by sturdy Goodyear self-inflating Life-Rafts. We build these life-rafts like we build tires . . . to the very highest possible stands of thorough dependability and safety." The Star Weekly, Toronto, September 18, 1943 is printed across the top of the cover.
