Context

The Top Hat Dancehall, formerly Davie's Club Dancing, was located at the corner of Main Street and Glenwood Drive where the Town of Wasaga Beach municipal parking lot is now located. From donor Pat Piotta: "The actual story is my parents, Willard & Margaret Dedels, along with my aunt & uncle bought the city block containing Davies Club, a large 9 room house which was attached to the dancehall by the basement, a snack bar with gas pumps and 10 cabins around 1955. My parents changed the name of Davies Club to the Top Hat dancehall. They operated the dancehall for about 4-1/2 years until 1959 when we moved back to Kitchener. My aunt & uncle sold their portion somewhere around the same time. I’m pretty sure the Top Hat was sold to someone who wanted to make it into an Irish Pub. I was able to dig out a couple pictures – one of the dancehall and another showing a portion of the snack bar. The B/A pump sign belonged to another business. That’s me on my bike in front of the dancehall." The Tophat Dancehall became Ireland's Tavern. Ireland's closed in the mid 80's and the building was taken down in the 1990's.
