Newspaper clipping from the Elmvale Lance, Thursday, September 5, 1935. The largest article describes a meeting of "The Van Vlack Institute" on August 29th at the home of Mrs. James Boyce. Twelve members and seven visitors attended. The meeting was opened by singing the opening "ode" and repeating the Lord's Prayer. Previous meeting minutes were read and approved. Due to the absence of some members, the meeting was short. Mr. Burt graham read and poem and Mrs. L. Draper and Mrs. J. Kidd conducted a contest for which prizes were awarded. The meeting was closed with the singing of God Save the King.

Context

John B. Van Vlack was the first documented settler in Wasaga Beach, arriving in the area circa 1869. Women's Institutes were instrumental in documenting and preserving history in the area.
