Description

Wasaga Beach Souvenir Cup and Saucer, 2 Sets

Context

The souvenir cup and saucer sets are smaller than standard size. Each ivory colour cup and saucer is imprinted in the colour burgundy with a circular image featuring scenes from the H.M.S. "Nancy", Wasaga Beach Historic Main Street, Martyr's Shrine, Midland and Blue Mountain. The scalloped edges of the saucers is trimmed with 22K gold as well as the rim of the teacups. China was decorated with 22k gold in Canada for items like commemorative plates for special occasions or events. China pieces were often imported and then decorated with gold and other details within Canada. The saucers have an emblem stamped in gold that includes a maple leaf with "DECORATED IN CANADA" across the leaf in a small banner. Below the maple leaf emblem reads "22 K GOLD".
