Wasaga Under Siege 1812 Official Bicentennial Souvenir Program, August 11th-17th, 2014Context
Wasaga Under Siege was an annual heritage festival held in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. The festival, centered around Nancy Island Historic Site, featured historical re-enactments portraying British, American and First Nations participants to recreate scenes from the War of 1812. The hull of the HMS Nancy that sunk during the War of 1812, is on display at Nancy Island.
The Wasaga Under Siege 1812 event, held August 11th-17th, 2014, commemorated the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Nottawasaga Bay and the destruction and sinking of HMS Nancy during the War of 1812. The featured Official Bicentennial Souvenir Program, produced by Metroland Media, includes festival events at Wasaga Beach as well as the Municipalities of Meaford, Thornbury, and Collingwood. Along with crafts and activities and various period demonstrations, Meaford and Thornbury also offered viewing of period sailing vessels and Collingwood offered deck tours of the US Brig Niagara with musical entertainment throughout the Town. In Wasaga Beach, some of the events held at Nancy Island Historic Site were commemorative ceremonies, re-enactments, fireworks and musical entertainment.Acquisition
