Certificate to authenticate World Record Splake, 1987Context
The World Record splake, weighing 9.39 kg (20 lb 11 oz) was caught by Paul S. Thompson on May 17, 1987 in Georgian Bay. The World Record was awarded by the International Game Fish Association certifying that Paul S. Thompson "has been awarded a world angling record for a catch of the heaviest fish of a species in an approved line class category, and that the catch was made in accordance with international angling regulations" (from the certificate). The splake is mounted to a large driftwood base. A stamp on the back of the wood base reads "Bush Taxidermy Studio, Wasaga Beach".
An article in the Toronto Star, Wednesday May 20th 1987, notes "this 35-inch splake’s a world record caught by Mr. Paul S. Thompson of Toronto, Ontario. He was in Nottawasaga Bay east of the mouth of the River on May 17th 1987."
