Embroidered and appliquéd with cotton threads and cotton fabric on cotton base.
Such pieces were made by the Grandmothers to be given as a gift with love on the 6th day of babies birth at the name giving ceremony ( christening ) along with this embroidered crib, caps were also made by the mothers of a baby. It is sometimes hung from a hook or the porch roof on the porch of the house or if the baby is taken somewhere, the baby may be placed in a basket with this covering the baby. while they are on the move with camels.
This beautiful tradition of making such beautiful gifts by hand is unfortunately discontinued in almost all the communities since the readymade and cheap modern cribs / cradles started coming in and took over.
This particular piece is embroidered by the Dhebaria Rabari community of North East of Kutch, Gujarat.
