Description

This heavy silk saree was woven for the Mumbai and Delhi markets. Primarily sold at the shops in the luxury saree shops where the not very rich could buy extravagant saris to wear for festivals. Brought to Vickie Elson's home in 1993 and given as a gift by a weaver that had been invited to stay with them. He had brought a suitcase full of saris to sell and had two left. Because the import duty is 100% of the value assigned by the customs agents, he didn't want to take it back, so he gave it as a gift.
