Entry/Object ID

Description

The Tenapi Fatola Bao Lolong is worn by the ruling patrilineage or Suku Uma Kakang. It is composed of three panels of warp ikat decorated cloth. The middle section features a repetitive pattern of baololong or banyan leaves. The term 'fatola' originates from 'patola', referring to imported double ikat silk textiles woven in Gujarat, India, which were the prerogative of royal families. The baololong pattern also fills the primary warp ikat bands in the outer panels.
