Entry/Object ID

Description

In Alor, specific types of tenapi, or tube skirts, are worn by distinct patrilineal lineages. The names of these lower garments are based on their design format and motifs, but do not carry specific meanings. This tenapi consists of two panels of warp ikat cloth, with main warp ikat bands at the top and bottom of the skirt. The Tenapi Moubehi is identifiable by its groupings of red and blue (black) stripes, which alternate with bands of warp ikat.
