Description

Tenapi Muko Thakang means tube skirt with 'ripe bananas'. This garment is worn by the Suku Dengwahi patrilineage of the Alurung ethnic group in the Umapura Village of Ternate Island, Alor Regency. It consists of two panels of reddish-brown cloth decorated with warp-ikat bands. The primary warp ikat bands are located near the top or the bottom of the skirt. The identifying characteristic of the cloth is its bold yellow and green stripes and sometimes orange threads. Another characteristic is the selvedge forming the top and bottom of the skirt, which are composed of yellow warp threads created with turmeric dyes.
