Henderson Airfield was a WWII base originally built in April 1942 by the Japanese on Guadalcanal Island, and the battle over its possession was one of the great battles in the South Pacific (Wikipedia). Allied forces took Henderson Field from the Japanese in August 1942, who made several failed attempts to retake Henderson Field.
