Description

This family history folder includes two items from pages 23 & 24 in the book "Traill County History, Vol. I. A family photograph of Carl A. and Caroline (Renden) Amb and 12 of their 13 children was included on page 24. A brief history of Carl. A. and Caroline Amb was included on page 23 (below). In addition to this brief history, we know from their granddaughter, Delores (Amb) Ludwig, that Carl Andreas Mikkelson Amb was born in Ringsaker, Hedmark County, Norway in 1861. He immigrated to the USA in 1878 when he was only 16 years old. Carl A. M. Amb joined a brother, Johan M. Amb, who had immigrated earlier in 1872 (see TCHS Catalogit entry 2024.595.1). Carl A. Amb homesteaded a 155-acre farm in Section 34 in Roseville Township in Traill County, Dakota Territory (see 1900 map, below). A railroad line cut through the SE-corner of Carl Amb's land. In 1886, Carl A. Amb married Caroline Renden, who was born in 1864 in Osterdalen, Valdres County, Norway. They had 13 children: Clara, Mike, Milla, Sophia, Conrad, Martha, John, Louise, Albert, Emma, Randina, Theadore (Ted), and Joseph (Joe) Amb. Carl and Caroline were active in the Roseville Lutheran Church, and the children would have attended Township School No. 7 located in nearby Section 28 (see 1900 map, below). Carl A. Amb passed away on 13 May 1933 and Caroline (Renden) Amb passed away on 31 January 1938. They were interred in the Roseville Cemetery located in the SE corner of Section 22.
