Description

Berthe Oline Myrland was born on 16 July 1871 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, the oldest child of parents Even Olsen and Berget (Eggen) Myrland, who came to America in 1870. By 1879 they had settled a homestead along the Red River in Section 2 in North Caledonia (later Bingham) Township, as shown on a 1900 plat map. In the 1880 US Census for Traill County, DT, Berthe was age 9, and had a sister Johanne (age 6), two brothers, Olaus (4) and Jorgim (2), and another sister, Gina (1). On 26 February 1892, Berthe Olina Myrland married Engebret Onstad in Neilsville, Minnesota. They farmed in Hubbard Township in Polk County, MN. Berthe and Engebret had a son, Elmer Onstad in 1895, and two daughters, Myrtle (b. 1897) and Evelyn (b. 1903). On 14 January 1927, Evelyn Onstad sold her share of land inherited after the death of her mother Berthe (Myrland) Onstad in 1919, to her Uncle Olaus Myrland (Hillsboro Banner news). On 17 August 1931, Evelyn Onstad married Parnell J. Smeby in Fargo, ND, as shown in a wedding photo taken at a studio in Casselton, ND. Evelyn and Parnell lived in Nielsville, MN, while Parnell worked in Climax, MN.
