A three-ring binder on Sorum Heritage compiled by Esther C. Sorum (Mrs Andrew) in 1965 (D-1100). This book outlines the descendants of Johannes Osten Tondrumsie (aka Ole Bakken) (1799 - 1882) and his wife, Marit Hansdatter Bjerkengen (1799 - 1892), who changed their family name to Sorum when they came to Waukon in Allamakee County, Iowa in 1850. Johannes and Marit's third son, Johan Sorum, was born in Norway, married Agnette Terningen in 1855, and they came to Iowa in 1957.
Johan and Agnette's first son, Mikkel Sorum, was born in 1858 in Iowa, and in 1880 came to Traill County, Dakota Territory. Mikkel Sorum married Eline Johnson in Hillsboro in 1882.
Mikkel and Eline Sorum's second son, Albert Julius Sorum, was born in 1887 and in 1920 he married Martha Melting of Halstad, MN. Albert and Martha Sorum lived in Hillsboro and had 11 children, including Earl Sorum (born 1922), Ethel (Sorum) Cox (b. 1923), Ruby (Sorum) Guidice (b. 1925), Ray Sorum (b. 1927), Lavern Sorum (b. 1929), Lois (Sorum) Thompson (b. 1931), Mavis Sorum (b. 1934), Donald Sorum (b. 1936), Betty Sorum (b. 1938), Shirley Sorum (b. 1941), and Sandra Sorum (b. 1943).Cataloged By
