Traill County Courthouse, Caledonia, Caledonia, North Dakota, Caledonia School

Context

Second Traill County Courthouse, Caledonia, North Dakota. On January 12, 1875, Governor John Pennington of Dakota Territory signed the bill which created Traill County. On April 5, 1875, Caledonia was named the county seat. The first county courthouse consisted of two rooms, one for the Register of Deeds and the other for the County Treasurer. Soon this much larger courthouse was built and furnished by the Luger Furniture Company of Fargo, known for their fine furnishings. This second courthouse served the county until 1891 when the county seat was moved to Hillsboro. The Caledonia Courthouse was converted into a school and stood until 1909 at which time it was destroyed by fire.
