A photograph of Company L Sgt Omer Rudrud reading in his tent while at Camp Claiborne, LA in 1941. After training at Camp Claiborne, Omer served in the US Army 164th infantry. He was a patrol leader in battles with the Japanese on Guadalcanal in the South Pacific, as reported in the 19 November 1943 issue of the Hillsboro Banner. Omer contracted Malaria and treated in hospitals in Fiji and back home in the USA. After WWII, Omer Rudrud was discharged from the US Army and was employed in San Diego, CA, where he married Marion Holman on 20 October 1945, and they made their home.
