ToffsrudContext
Knud and Mari (Hansdatter-Solum) Swenson-Tovsrud were both born in the Eggedal Parish of the Sigdal Kommune in Norway, and they married in Eggedal in 1859, In 1861, they immigrated to America and settled on a farm near Spring Grove, MN. Knud's parents, Svend Halvorson and Liva (Andersdatter) Tovsrud also immigrated to Spring Grove, and lived together on Knud and Mari Tovsrud's dairy farm. After Knud's father, Svend Tovsrud passed away in 1881, Knud began to use the family name Swenson or Svendson, since he was Svend Tovsrud's son. In 1885, Knud and Mari Swenson-Tovsrud moved with their 10 children to farm in Norway Township, Traill County, ND. In the early 1900s, Knud and Mari Swenson moved into Hillsboro, ND. They both died in 1916 and are buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro.
From my family history research (see family history book "A Family History for Hannah [Swenson] and John E. Ludwig"), I know that this photograph is not a photo of my great great grandfather, Knud Swenson-Tovsrud, so it is almost certainly a photograph of Knud's father, Svend Halverson Tovsrud. This photo, along with other Swenson-Tovsrud family photographs, was donated to the TCHS Museum by Minnie Sorum, a granddaughter of Knud and Mari Swenson. Minnie Sorum's mother was Annie (Tovsrud) Sorum, Mrs. Albert A. Sorum, of Traill County, ND.
