Description

This folder contains selected pages from a history of Maren (Swenson-Tovsrud) and husband Ole H. Baglien and their family as described on pages 48 to 69 in the book "A family History for Hannah [Swenson] and John E. Ludwig, Residents of Hillsboro, North Dakota, USA, in the late 1800s and early to mid-1900s" written in 2016 by John A. Ludwig, which is available in the TCHS Resource room, Plummer House, Hillsboro, ND. Maren was a daughter of Knud and Mari Swenson, John Ludwig's great great grandparents. in 1878, Ole H. Baglien came from Spring Grove, Minnesota, and homesteaded in Traill County, Dakota Territory. Ole married Maren Swenson-Tovsrud in December 1881 in Quincy, Traill County, and then they settled on a farm in Eldorado Township near Hillsboro. Ole and Maren had ten children. Eight of these children lived to be adults as shown in the family photo taken in about 1905, courtesy of Jay West from his late cousin Donald. E. Baglein's book "Norway to America: Kantrud-Baglein-Heide Family History". Ole H. Baglien died in 1936 and Maren (Swenson-Tovsrud) Baglien in 1947. Also in this folder is a photo of Ole (labelled "Dad", at right in the photo, as contributed by Minnie Baglien), along with Ole's older sister Mary (Baglien) Knutson, and their father Hans Baglien (at left). A newspaper article on the life of Mary (Baglien) Knudtson is also included in this folder.
